What iconography do you expect to see in the genre thriller?

One of the scenes in our trailers consist of the neighbours and the mother which Hina's mum and neighbour filmed.

Due to this Hina took the camera overnight to film the scenes:

When watching this over, the scence came out really effectively because Hina's mum acted like a symphathic mum who is really upset and disturbed about her sons actions. She was looking down which bought her emotional side.

This is Hina's mum, she plays the protagnists mum, who is questionning the son.

This Hina's mum again, she is with her younger son, making it more realistic and emotional as it emphasises the familes pain.

This is Hina's neighbours bedroom, who is a christan, this provides diverse ethnic groups for the trailer.

This filming went really well and also Hina got her Uncle doing a scene where he points at the camera and says "It was you", this was not planned to be in the trailer but whilst watching it, we decided to put in as it fits in really nicely with the questioning.
Our institutional data includes:

A green classics production. A GREENT presents "The Cut"our in association with Film Four Films and the cast, Raza Mustafa with Uzma Akbar.
Casting dirctor Sameria Idrees.
Director of photography Hina Majeed
Written and produced by Suhail Muhammed

We done this data by looking at the independent films like:
Moon
Afterschool
In the loop
an Education
Nowwhere Boy

We have also decided that the film will come out:
"This Autumn"
Logo's and Captions:

This the logo that we are going to disribute in the trailer

This Logo represents an independent British Film, which our trailer is.

Suhail found this Logo through research. We also edited it in photoshop to make it more effective, we made the writing smaller and changed the colour.

Film Four Logo is useful for our trailer because due to our trailer consisting of being an independent film which requires a niche audience.

This is the title for our trailer.

This was created in photoshop with DaFont.com. We decided to have this as the title because "The Cut", relates to the filming and the film club within the film, the whole aspect of the trailer relates to filming.

This is another distribution company which is well known for distributing films like The Country For Old Men and There Will Be Blood.

This is another independent film distribution company, which could be very useful for our trailer.

This is a quote from Phillip French an editor from the Observer, to make the trailers look more effective, so the audiences want to go and watch it, it attracts the audience.

The five stars emphasises the realism of the film being nominated and also the importance of the film is portrayed throgh the stars.
In lesson today, we watched the completed footage on the computer, of raza in the Mac room.
I contuniued looking at sound finding a school bell, but then Sarah helped us and we choose the best one for our trailer.

I also in lesson looked at other trailers of independant films like Paranormal Activity, After School, The Descent, Dead Man's shoes, Cube, Blood Feast to gain an idea of how independent films operate.

9th Dec Meeting:

On 9th, the meeting took place where we planned to do the scene where Raza uploads the footage on the Mac.

This scene took place in the college in the Mac room, where Suhail being the camera man filmed Raza uploading the footage. Due to acheiving a variety of footages for our trailers to choose from, we done the scene a few times to have a variety to choose from.

As a director, I was obseving the scenes and perfercting the scenes.
The filming scene went well because due to there only being one actor to film and the scene being short.

We then had time to plan for our next meeting and the remaining things that we needed to do to complete our trailer. For our next meeting which would be on 16th Dec, the last meeting before the holidays.

The things that did not go well are that we had difficultly choosing the day as not everyone was free at the same time, but we finally setted for a date, which was 16th Dec.

In this meeting we planned to do the toilet scene, where the protagnist Raza has a violent scene and then someone punches him and he falls on the flooor. This will take place in college in the boys toilet, so therefore Suhail will film it, and Raza is the actor, due to this me and Hina will forcus on the captions and the sound in the Mac room. We decided to take this approach, because then a lot can be done in a small amount of time and then also each of will have a task do complete and therefore the trailer will successfully be completed.

Overall, the meeting was really successful and we managed to do what we needed to achieve in the meeting and in advance we also had enough time to plan the next meeting, no time was wasted.
This is the step line of how the completed trailer will look like: We now know where each of the captions will be placed, making our trailer organised.
By doing this step oitline we now are clear of the captions that are still needed to be done on photoshhop.

Sound Effects:
Now that we have successfully completed our voice- over.
We can now concentrate on other sound needed in the trailer.
This includes:

School Bell=
Birds singing/chirping
Leaves chirping
Heavy Breathing
We had a bit of problem finding the sounds for these conventions for the trailer. The problems include when we were finding the sound track, the sites were blocked or the sound was not appropriate. Also some of the downloading sound tracks you had to pay.
So to solve this, Sarah helped us by showing us some sound effects from her mac book. As a group we choose the appropriate ones that would suit our trailer.

Meeting 16th Dec:

This meeting was the last one taking place before we break up for the holidays. Due this being the last week in college before the holidays we decided to finsh the filming for the whole trailer. We met up at 4 after college.

The scenes we had do were the toilet scene, so Raza and Suhail filmed this scene in the boys toilets, whilst me and Hina decided to forcus on the captions and the sound in the Mac room. #

The things that went well about this was that we divided the work between the 4 of us. And due this we ended up with completing the things we needed to complete.

However, Raza and Suhail were not able to finsh the final scenes, where the main character gets beaten up, so they will do this next week.

The things that we need to forcus on are:

Sound
Editing
Captions

In todays lesson, Raza carried on uploading the footage, whilst the rest of us sorted the captions for the trailer, we decided where to place them. We decided that the caption "Based on a true story" will be placed at the start of the trailer.

We also booked the camera for Wed, when our group meeting will take place after collge to do the remaining of our filming and Raza's voice-over. We still have the Remaining of Sam's voice-over to do as a teacher questioning Raza, but we can not do this on Wed as Sam is not available, we need to choose another day for this.

However, we have a tecniqual problem as the footage of Uzma lying on the floor as a dead body, has too much light on it, which makes it very difficult to see the actual body. Due to this we may have to re-shoot that scene again, but the date to do this is not finalised as we are currently waiting for the tecnichan Phil to see if he can do any thing about it.

Also in today's lesson we watched the footage the Hina took home to film of the parents, neighbours questioning Raza, her footage was greatly captured and included everything that was required.

Today in lesson Raza contuined working on the editing and Hina was sorting the sound out. I was sorting out the distribution for the film, like the films company, directors, producers and writers. To do this I went on trailers on youtube. The trailers were British independent film trailers, as our traile is a British independent film, to look for examples I mainly concentrated on the "After School" trailer and also "Even Dead men die"trailer, despite watching other trailers, these two were the most effective for me, the thing that I noticed was the way at the end of the trailer all the disribution information is included, rather the having produced by, directed by at the starting which big budget Hollywood films have.

We also decided where to place the captions of Micheals voice-over.
Captions:
"Fast-paced"= Raza running in the park.
"Neat" = Dragging uzma's dead body"
"Intringuing"= When Raza is calling Uzma.

The other captions include:

"Based on a true story"
"Nominated for Best Film at the 2008 Carnival film fesival. "
"Empire magazine****"
"The Cut" = The title

We have also booked a camera for Wed, to finsh of the remaining of the filming and do Raza's voice over.

Thursday, 3 December 2009

Our footage for the trailer came out with fragramented images, this was caused due to the film that was used. We then decided to shoot some of the bits of the trailer again, but we then found out the problem was fixed and we no longer had to re-shoot.

We had a group meeting on Wed 2nd Dec, where we got Sam to do the voice-over for the trailer. Sam successfully completed the voice-over by doing it three times with different accents.

But what did not go well was Sam doing a voice-over for the captions, as we needed a less softer voice, Sam tried a couple of times but the voice was not coming out right. We then decided to ask Micheal, an english teacer to do it. Micheal greatly delivered the voice-over.

Hina then took the camera home, to do the remaining scene of her mother, neighbours and friends questining the boy.
